Carla Hawkins, Director

Carla Hawkins recently joined us as the new Director of Jr. Apprentice.img_3142 While new to the program, Carla is not new to The Hartford Consortium for Higher Education having working in the Career Beginnings for nine years.  Her background includes twenty years in Human Services with extensive experience in College and Career Readiness with youth. Carla received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from
Assumption College in Rehabilitation Counseling.  She immigrated to Hartford, CT at age thirteen from Portugal and enjoys working with first generation college students and urban youth.  When not at work, she enjoys hiking, camping and traveling with her family and she’s also very involved with planning and chaperoning youth mission trips.

Glorivee Ortiz, AmeriCorps VISTA

Glorivee Ortiz is a graduate of Central Connecticut State University, with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. While a student at CCSU, she was actively involved in various clubs and organizations. As a product of a college preparatory program (Wesleyan Upward Bound) and a summer melt program (Educational Opportunity Program, E.O.P), she found the most value in her work with the CCSU’s ConnCAP program, mentoring low-income/first generation college students achieve their highest potentials. Glorivee looks forward to continuing working with youths on educational success, professional development and career exploration.

Lauren A. Silverstein, Founder

From the time she got her first business suit in 7th grade, Lauren was excited about the world of work. While her career has spanned across several sectors, including community partnership development, college & career advising, and higher education LSilverstein.headshotteaching & administration, a common purpose has been present in each: to promote educational equity, opportunity and success. It is this purpose that continues to energize her.

Lauren received her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Pittsburgh, her M.Ed from Harvard University and her BA from Vassar College.
