Carla Hawkins, Director

Carla Hawkins recently joined us as the new Director of Jr. Apprentice.img_3142 While new to the program, Carla is not new to The Hartford Consortium for Higher Education having working in the Career Beginnings for nine years.  Her background includes twenty years in Human Services with extensive experience in College and Career Readiness with youth. Carla received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from
Assumption College in Rehabilitation Counseling.  She immigrated to Hartford, CT at age thirteen from Portugal and enjoys working with first generation college students and urban youth.  When not at work, she enjoys hiking, camping and traveling with her family and she’s also very involved with planning and chaperoning youth mission trips.

 

Rachel Litvin, AmeriCorps VISTARachel

Rachel Litvin received a dual degree in Music and Political Science from the University of Connecticut. While at the university, she was actively involved in community organizing. She was a trip director and program coordinator for UConn Alternative Breaks. This program inspired her to continue doing community work after college. She looks forward to continuing meaningful work as the VISTA for the Hartford Consortium for Higher Education.

Lauren A. Silverstein, Founder

From the time she got her first business suit in 7th grade, Lauren was excited about the world of work. While her career has spanned across several sectors, including community partnership development, college & career advising, and higher education LSilverstein.headshotteaching & administration, a common purpose has been present in each: to promote educational equity, opportunity and success. It is this purpose that continues to energize her.

Lauren received her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Pittsburgh, her M.Ed from Harvard University and her BA from Vassar College.
